The Chalk Pit
Amberley Lime Works is located at the southern extent of the parish. It is normally visible as a prominent scar on the chalk cliffs behind Houghton Bridge but this unusual view from above, looking south west, was published by Greenfield & Sons possibly in the early 1900s. The top right corner appears to show a loop of the Arun slightly overflowing the banks while the pit in the foreground looks little used, indicating that it may be near the end of its working life.
The complex is now the Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre.
