Clio of Ardrossan

Clio of Ardrossan, a 110ft two masted brigantine weighing 204 tons gross, was one of Joseph Robinson's fleet which appears on a number of postcards at Arundel and Littlehampton, and was probably used for bringing coal from NE England. Her arrivals and departures are recorded in the Littlehampton Harbourmaster's Journals in the WSCC Records office. She was sold to a French owner on 14th October 1912

Technical Data

The card below to the left by F.W. Spry shows Clio being towed down river by Jumna through Littlehampton’s Swing Bridge. Date must be sometime between 1908 and 1912, probably the occasion of her departure from the scene in 1912.
