Ebenezer

Ebenezer was probably one of the best known of Joseph Robinson's sailing vessels which he owned from 1895 to 1915. This Spry picture shows her departing light under sail off Littlehampton.

Another postcard, probably by White of Littlehampton, shows a bow view of Ebenezer in Arundel. The Littlehampton Harbourmaster's journal records her regular arrival, laden with coal, ready to be towed upriver by the tug Jumna.

In common with other colliers, her sails often appear rather grubby, presumably from the coal dust generated during loading. She was the last square rigged vessel to be registered in Littlehampton.

This 1908 postcard of the crew was photographed at Lowestoft. Her skipper was Louis Robinson, one of Joseph's sons, and he is standing at the back in waistcoat and hat.

The card is addressed to his younger brother, Captain S.D. Robinson, c/o an address in Isleworth and datelined Lowestoft 9 June 1908.
