The Village Pond

This postcard, from the very early 1900s, is by Valentines but was published by Greenfield & Sons of Amberley. The church and castle wall can be clearly seen, viewed from the north. Horses are being cooled down and washed in the pond, perhaps after a hard day working in the fields.

This view from the west, possibly photographed by David Dinnage who lived locally, shows more horses making use of the pond. Note the ancient tree overhanging the pond.

This photograph, from an unknown (probably local) publisher, shows a horse pulling the "Water Cart". Perhaps it was used for topping up supplies for the stables up in the castle.

The distant background to "The Floods" suggests this was taken close to the location of the previous two views, looking east.
